What Happens at Each Stage – Explained Simply
Registration Phase
This is where you create your profile and complete the registration form on dme.mponline.gov.in. The registration window is typically open for about 10–14 days. Pay the Rs.1,000 registration fee before the deadline, your registration is not confirmed until payment is done.
If you want to edit your registration details after payment, you can do so using the “Edit Registration Form” option but only before the registration end date closes.
Merit List Publication
After registration closes, DME MP processes all registrations and publishes the State Merit List on the portal. This is category-wise and shows your rank among all registered candidates. Your allotment depends on this rank, not just your raw NEET score.
Check your rank carefully. If there is a discrepancy in your category or details, there is usually a short objection window before counselling begins.
Choice Filling and Locking Phase
Once the merit list is out, the choice filling window opens. This is where you select and rank the colleges you want. The window is typically open for 4–7 days.
Remember: Choice filling and choice locking are two separate steps. Simply selecting colleges is not enough, you must lock your choices by paying the Rs.100 choice locking fee. Only locked choices are considered for allotment.
You can edit your locked choices right up until the deadline. But if you edit and forget to re-lock, your previous locked choices are used, so always confirm after editing.
Allotment Round
After the choice locking deadline, the system runs a computerized allotment. This usually takes 24–48 hours. The allotment list is then published on the portal. Login to your Candidate Corner and download your allotment letter from there.
Reporting at Institute
After allotment, you get a specific window usually 5 to 7 days to report at the allotted college. You must:
- Report physically at the college with your original documents
- Get document verification done by the admission committee
- Pay the admission/institute fee online via the portal
- Collect your Admission Letter
If you do not report within this window, your allotment is cancelled and you are barred from future rounds.
Upgrade / Better Option
In Round 2, if you were allotted a seat in Round 1 but feel you can get a better college or stream, you can opt for Upgradation while filling Round 2 choices. If you get upgraded in Round 2, your Round 1 admission is automatically cancelled. If you don’t get a better option, your Round 1 admission stays intact.
This “better option” facility is not available in the Mop-Up Round.
Round-wise Participation Rules – Who Can Apply in Which Round?
This is one of the most confusing aspects for students. Here is a clear breakdown:
| Round | Who Can Participate |
|---|---|
| Round 1 | All registered and eligible candidates |
| Round 2 | Candidates not allotted in Round 1 + those who chose Upgrade from Round 1 + candidates who took Round 1 admission but surrendered their seat + candidates who were allotted but didn’t report |
| Mop-Up Round | Only candidates NOT allotted in Round 1 AND Round 2 + candidates who chose Upgrade in Round 2 + those who deposited Rs.2 lakh advance |
| Stray Vacancy | Only candidates with zero allotment across all three rounds |
Important: Candidates who were allotted a seat in Round 1 or 2 and took admission cannot participate in the Mop-Up Round unless they first withdraw from their current seat.
Seat Withdrawal Deadlines – Don’t Miss These
The MP Medical Education Rules are clear about withdrawal timelines:
- Round 1 Admission – Withdrawal Deadline: 2 days before Round 2 counselling begins. Withdrawal must be done in person at the allotted college via an online process on the portal.
- Round 2 Admission – Withdrawal Deadline: 2 days before Mop-Up Round begins.
- Mop-Up Round – No withdrawal facility available for future rounds (Stray Vacancy Round does not offer upgrade).
If you withdraw from Round 1 admission after this deadline but before Round 2, you lose the seat and also lose the right to participate in future rounds and a seat-leaving bond (Seat Leaving Bond) of Rs.30 lakh is applicable for government colleges and full course fee for private colleges.
Advance Security Deposit Deadlines
For Round 2 and Mop-Up Round, you need to deposit an advance security amount before you can fill choices. These amounts are:
| Stage | Government College (UR) | Government College (Reserved) | Private College (All) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round 2 (for UG – MBBS/BDS) | Rs.10,000 | Rs.5,000 | Rs.1,00,000 |
| Mop-Up Round (All candidates) | Rs.2,00,000 | Rs.2,00,000 | Rs.2,00,000 |
| NRI Quota | — | — | Rs.10,00,000 |
This deposit is adjusted against your admission fee if allotted. If not allotted, it is refunded after the counselling process is complete.
