A Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme is available for economically weaker students under the AICTE guidelines adopted by the Punjab Government:

Punjab B.Tech PTU Counselling Process 2026
The counseling has been divided into few rounds as follows,
Registration and merit list: All candidates entitled for counseling, registered online and feed all their personal data, a merit list prepared based on JEE Main-2026 score for B.Tech 1st year students and based on the score obtained in CET/Qualifying exam in case of lateral entry. This merit list is a categorized list. These lists have categories General, SC/ST, BC and all other reserved categories.
TFW counselling (carried out first): Before the general rounds commence the TFW counseling carried out separately where all those candidates entitled to the TFW scheme get their seat. If you have opted for TFW and qualified for it this will be the place where you get your seat. If you get your seat in TFW then you cannot change the college nor the branch.
Round 1 (Main counselling): In the first main counseling, based on the final merit list and choice filled by all candidates, seats shall be allotted to every candidate in their respective categories on the basis of merit rank and preferred order. After allotment of seat candidate has to:
- Log into the portal and respond to the allotment by acceptance.
- Report to the concerned colleges where you have been allocated seat before the due date.
- Submit all the original documents for verification.
- Pay 1st installment of college fees.
In case, if the candidate does not report to the assigned college, their allotted seat shall be considered cancelled and would be offered to the next candidate in order of merit.
Round 2 (2nd round): In this round all the seats left vacant after the first round (due to non-reporting, withdrawal and failed verification) shall be filled by other entitled candidates (those who did not get seat in the first round) based on merit rank and choices filled.
Spot counselling: Seats remaining after the 2nd round shall be filled by spot counseling where you may either be present personally or can opt for online counseling as well where a new slot of registration would also be offered. Seats will be filled here on the spot based on merit rank and vacancies.
Direct Admission: Any seats left unfilled after the counseling procedure is completely over then these seats may be directly admitted by the concerned colleges according to university guidelines before the last date specified.

Within the Defence personnel category, there is a priority order: those killed in action are given highest priority, followed by disabled in action, died in service, disabled in service, gallantry award winners, and finally serving/ex-servicemen.
If qualified candidates are not available in any sub-category of disabled persons, those seats are filled from other disabled sub-categories, and if still vacant, from the general category.

Punjab B.Tech PTU Counselling 2026 Seat Acceptance and Reporting
Once a seat is allotted to you in any round here is what you need to do:
- Accept the seat online – You need to log in to the counseling portal and accept the allotted seat within the stipulated time. Otherwise the allotted seat will be considered as rejected.
- Physical Reporting at the college – Report to the college at which the seat is allotted within the specified time. You will be required to take original documents along with a self-attested photocopy.
- Verification of documents – All the original documents presented will be verified. Any document found to be wrong or incomplete will lead to cancellation of admission.
- Payment of fee – At the time of physical reporting, you will be required to pay the first installment of the college fee at the fee collection counter at the college. The fee to be paid will be decided by the Fee Fixation Committee for each college.
- Seat Freezing and Up gradation – If you are satisfied with the seat allotted you should accept and freeze the seat. If you wish to opt for an up-gradation to a better college then you can opt for the same and your seat will be held till the time of result for the next round.
Other Important Details for Punjab B.Tech PTU Counselling 2026
- For PMSSS / PM-USPY Candidates: Students admitted under Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) / PM-USPY are considered as a different category. The mode of admission in the admission form is mentioned as PMSSS. Candidates applying under the PMSSS must also register in the Study in India portal and have to produce the required E-FRRO / FRRO documentation.
- For Kashmiri Migrant Candidates: Kashmiri migrant candidates are admitted under their own quota. Such students are supposed to produce the certificate and follow the instructions of the university regarding admission in this category.

Punjab B.Tech PTU Counselling 2026 is the centralized online process being conducted by I K Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) for admission to 1st year B.Tech and B.Tech lateral entry (2nd year) courses in all the engineering colleges of Punjab. The admission will be for the academic session 2026-27.

A. For B.Tech Lateral Entry, candidates need to have 3 year Diploma in Engineering from any State Board of Technical Education or equivalent with 45% (40% for reserved category) aggregate.
Q. What is the 85:15 seat split in Punjab engineering colleges?
A. 85% of the total approved intake in affiliated colleges is reserved for Punjab state domicile candidates, while 15% is open to candidates from all states across India (All India quota). NRI seats are over and above this approved intake as permitted by AICTE.
Q. Can candidates from other states apply for Punjab B.Tech PTU Counselling?
A. All the students from other states can apply for the 15% All India quota seats for B.Tech admissions in engineering colleges in Punjab. Students must have a Punjab state domicile to claim their 85% Punjab state quota seat.
Q. What is the Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme in Punjab engineering colleges?
A. Through the TFW scheme 5% supernumerary seats over and above approved intake will be provided to students whose family income from all sources will not be more than Rs 4.5 lakh per year. These students are offered a complete waiver on the tuition fees throughout the course of study. A separate merit list is prepared and TFW counselling is conducted prior to the general round counseling.
