About AKTU and UPTAC
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), formerly known as UPTU, was established in May 2000 by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The university was founded with a clear mission to cultivate excellence in technical education and research while integrating human values and ethics among students. Now two decades after its establishment, AKTU is considered as one of the biggest technical universities in Asia and it is affiliated to 756 colleges and institutions in Uttar Pradesh offering graduate, post graduate and doctoral programs in engineering, management, pharmacy, architecture and other professions.
AKTU is affiliating in nature, meaning its jurisdiction spans the entire state of UP. It develops flexible and innovative academic programmes designed to prepare students to compete at national and international levels. The university also places a strong emphasis on advancing technical education among educationally backward communities, a vision reflected in its comprehensive reservation and fee waiver policies.
The centralized counseling for admissions to all the degree level engineering institutions and other professional colleges affiliated to AKTU are conducted through UPTAC (Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counseling) where the CAB (Central Admission Board), under the chairman ship of the Vice Chancellor of AKTU, holds all the rights to take all the decisions in the context of the counseling.
