Step-by-Step Punjab B.Tech PTU Counselling Registration 2026
1. Login: Go to the official counseling website of IKGPTU which is https://ptu.ac.in/. Any other website or agent for the counseling registration is not recommended. The status for counseling seat allotment result, further procedures, notification etc will be updated on the official website only. There are also many cases of illegality for payments or you may also not be aware of certain important dates.
2. Create your account: When you are first logged on to the official site of IKGPTU counseling, you are prompted to create an account by using your personal details like name, date of birth, mobile number and email ID. This creates a unique login ID and password for you. Do not lose this information and safe keep them. These login details will be needed for all future events during the IKGPTU counseling process, which also includes the seat allotment result.
3. Fill up your Application Form: Once logged in, carefully fill up all the necessary details:
- Personal details such as name, DOB, gender, address.
- Category and sub-category. This also includes a separate option for people belonging to different sub categories, for example if the general category applies for other subjects like B.Tech, the sub-category applies to a different type of subject and in here you must apply. Other categories are SC/ST, BC, PwD, defence personnel children, etc.
- Qualification details-qualifying examination passed, name of the examination, year of passing and marks scored in each subject.
- Jee Main 2026 Application Number and score (For B.Tech First Year only)
- Diploma examination details and CET score (for B.Tech Lateral entry)
- Mention your residential status, i.e., you have to apply under 85% Punjab quota or 15% All India Quota.
- Mention if you are applying for Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme (TFW).
All the details in the application form have to match your actual mark sheets/ certificates. Any error found during document verification at the time of college reporting may result in cancellation of the allotted seat.
4. Upload Documents: You may have to upload some scanned copies of the required documents. The scanned documents have to be clear andreadable. If the file size is more or document is not clear then the application may be given conditional marks for reporting.
5. Pay the Counseling Registration Fee: Pay the IKGPTU counseling registration fee which is non-refundable. The fee can be paid online via net banking, credit card or debit card. It does not matter if you get admission or not. Take printout of the payment receipt.
6. Submit your College and Branch choices: After completing your registration and making payment for the counselling fee, you have to submit the choices for the branches and colleges, in order of your priority. You may submit any number of options you desire, and the more options you submit, the greater is your chances of getting admission throughout the various rounds of counseling. Select your choices very carefully, taking into consideration all factors that play a role in admissions.
7. Lock your Choices: Before you log out, you must carefully lock your entire preference list. Once you have locked it, you cannot make any further changes. These are the locked choices that will be used by the system to determine your seat allotment for each round of counseling including counseling Round 1, Round 2, etc, and also spot counseling.
8. Check Seat Allotment Result: After the registration closes, wait for the IKGPTU seat allotment result which will be released online on the counseling portal after each round of counseling. Individual SMS or email would not be sent; therefore, it is your responsibility to log in to the official IKGPTU counseling portal and view your status during the stipulated times.
9. Report to the Allotted College: Once a seat is allotted to you, proceed with the online counseling acceptance procedure and also physically report to the designated college for admissions before the due date. Ensure you carry all your original documents along with you to the college for verification purposes. In case of failure to report on the allocated date, the seat shall be canceled and offered to the next candidate on the merit list.
