Who Can Participate in UPTAC Choice Filling

All candidates whose registration form has been rejected because of invalid documents or due to discrepancy in the application form will not be allowed for choice filling. In case of any discrepancy in application form application will be rejected and no representation in this regard will be entertained.

How the UPTAC Allotment Works After Choice Filling

Knowing the allotment mechanism helps you make better choices to include in your choice list. Once the UPTAC counselling 2026 choice filling date closes, the algorithm used for allotment proceeds as follows.

  • Candidates are ranked by merit, JEE Main rank for B.Tech, CUET score for other courses. Starting from the top of the merit list, the system assigns each candidate the highest-priority locked preference that has an available seat in their category. The process continues down the merit list until all seats are filled or all candidates have been processed.
  • Because of this top-down, preference-ordered model, placing ambitious choices at the top of your list carries no risk, you will only be moved to a lower preference if higher-priority seats are genuinely unavailable for your rank and category.

Upgrading in Round 2 – How It Works

Important benefit to the UPTAC counselling system is the Round 2 upgrade facility. A candidate receives a Round 1 allotment but this is not a top preference, can then go through Round 2 with revised preferences and may end up getting a better seat.

When such an upgrade occurs in Round 2 the Round 1 seat automatically gets freed for other candidates, and if an upgrade is not achieved in Round 2 then the seat received in Round 1 still remains. Thus Round 2 can be viewed as a no-risk upgrade attempt for candidates who already have an allotment.

Tips for Filling Choices Before the UPTAC Counselling Choice Filling Date 2026

  • Research before the window opens: This choice filling window is short. Candidates who research college and cut-offs well in advance make selections much more effectively than candidates filling it randomly.
  • Refer the official seat matrix: It is uploaded on the UPTAC portal before the choice filling window opens. In the seat matrix, available seats are shown college-wise, branch-wise and category-wise. Always refer to it before adding any choice.
  • Include some pragmatic choices below top few choices: Top government colleges may be chosen initially, but make a list of options from top to low, so that the more realistic one comes down. Do not include only top choice ones in the hope you get better ones.
  • Remember sub-category reservations: Female(UPGL), Defence(UPAF) and Divyangjan(UPHC) have horizontal reservations, eligible candidate gets a better opportunity on their reserved seat; keep these points in mind while filling choices.
  • Lock choices as early as possible: Do not wait for UPTAC counselling choice filling date 2026 deadline. Lock choices at least one day before to avoid technical problems and last-moment rush of students for filling the choices.
