DTE MP Counselling Eligibility Criteria is important and every candidate must verify before even thinking about registration. The Directorate of Technical Education, Madhya Pradesh has clearly defined conditions that every applicant must meet academic, domicile, category, and entrance exam-related. Failing to meet even one condition means your candidature can be cancelled at any stage, even after a seat is allotted.
This guide covers every eligibility condition for DTE MP Counselling 2026 in clear, simple language so you know exactly where you stand before the process begins.
What Determines Eligibility for DTE MP Counselling?
Eligibility for DTE MP Counselling 2026 for B.E./B.Tech admission is determined by four broad conditions:
- Citizenship – Must be an Indian citizen
- Academic qualification – Must have passed 10+2 with the required subjects and minimum marks
- Entrance exam – Must have a valid positive composite score in JEE Main 2026
- Domicile – Must meet MP domicile requirements for MP quota seats
All four conditions must be satisfied simultaneously. Meeting only some of them does not make a candidate eligible.
1. Citizenship Eligibility
The candidate must be a citizen of India. Non-Indian nationals are not eligible for admission through the regular DTE MP counselling process. Separate provisions exist for NRI candidates under the NRI quota (5% of intake), which is governed by the AICTE Reservation Regulations 2011 notified in the Madhya Pradesh Gazette.
2. Academic Eligibility for B.E./B.Tech
Qualifying Examination
Candidates must have passed the 10+2 (Higher Secondary) examination from:
- Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE), or
- Any other recognized Board/University equivalent to 10+2
The examination must be from the 10+2 system with the required subjects as specified below.
Required Subjects
A candidate must have passed 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with at least one of the following subjects:
- Chemistry
- Computer Science
- Electronics
- Information Technology
- Biology
- Informatics Practices
- Biotechnology
- Technical Vocational Subject
- Agriculture
- Engineering Graphics
- Business Studies
- Entrepreneurship
Special provision for Agriculture Engineering: Candidates who passed 10+2 under the Agriculture Stream with three main agriculture-related subjects are also eligible but only for admission to the Agriculture Engineering branch, not for other B.E./B.Tech branches.
Minimum Marks Requirement
| Category | Minimum Aggregate in Required Three Subjects |
|---|---|
| General / Unreserved (UR) | 45% |
| SC (Scheduled Caste) – MP domicile | 40% |
| ST (Scheduled Tribe) – MP domicile | 40% |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) – MP domicile | 40% |
| EWS (Economically Weaker Section) – MP domicile | 45% |
| Divyangjan (PwD) – MP domicile | 40% |
The relaxation in minimum marks (from 45% to 40%) applies only to reserved category candidates who are domicile of Madhya Pradesh. Candidates from other states belonging to SC/ST/OBC who are applying under All India seats do not get this relaxation.
Key notes on marks calculation:
- Grace marks (Kripank) are allowed for the purpose of passing but are not counted when calculating the minimum percentage. If you need grace marks to reach 45%, you are not eligible.
- If the qualifying exam marksheet uses a grading system instead of percentage, the candidate must produce a conversion certificate from the Board specifying the equivalent percentage.
- If a candidate reappears in the qualifying exam with all subjects, only the marks from the latest attempt are considered.
- When calculating percentage from non-100 marks subjects, conversion to 100 is done without rounding for individual subjects. The final percentage is then rounded to the nearest integer (44.50% to 44.99% rounds up to 45%; 44.01% to 44.49% rounds down to 44%).
Technical Stream (TS) Category Eligibility
A separate class, the Technical Stream (TS) is available for candidates who meet the following specific combination:
- Passed 10+2 from MP Board or any recognized board with Physics and Mathematics as main subjects, plus Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Technical Vocational subject
- AND passed a three-year Diploma in any Engineering branch from a university located in Madhya Pradesh
This is a horizontal reservation category within each vertical category (SC/ST/OBC/UR). Candidates eligible for TS class get 1% horizontal reservation.
3. Entrance Exam Eligibility
JEE Main 2026 – Mandatory
B.E./B.Tech admissions through DTE MP Counselling 2026 are based exclusively on JEE Main 2026 All India Rank (CRL) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
| Course | Required JEE Main Paper |
|---|---|
| B.E./B.Tech | JEE Main 2026 B.E./B.Tech Paper |
| B.Arch | JEE Main 2026 B.Arch Paper |
| B.Planning | JEE Main 2026 B.Planning Paper |
Positive composite score is mandatory. Candidates who appeared in JEE Main 2026 but scored a zero or negative composite score are not eligible. Only a positive non-zero composite score qualifies.
Qualifying JEE Main 2026 does not guarantee admission. It is one of several conditions that must all be met together.
4. MP Domicile Eligibility (for MP Quota Seats – 90% of Intake)
Madhya Pradesh Domicile 90% Seats will be allocated to candidates who can provide proof that they have lived in Madhya Pradesh (‘MP’) for the required amount of time. This is called the Local Resident Certificate (Format-6) and is issued by an authorized Revenue Officer Naib Tehsildar or Tehsildar according to a directive from the Government of MP dated June 29, 2013.
Who Qualifies as MP Domicile?

Exceptions to Domicile Requirement
Two categories of candidates are exempt from the regular domicile requirement for MP quota seats:

J&K Migrant Category: J&K Migrant candidates and children of MP government officers/employees posted in J&K for anti-terrorism duties are also exempt from the standard domicile requirement for the supernumerary J&K seats.
5. Eligibility for NRI Seats (5% of Intake)
The “Admission (Reservation for Non-Resident Indian in AICTE Approved Courses) Regulations” govern the NRI seats (5% of sanctioned intake).
Key points:
- Only Non-Resident Indians shall be considered eligible to apply to the NRI seat
- Candidates must still meet the academic eligibility of having passed their 10+2 and completed their Physics, Mathematics and the third subject required set forth by the AITCE regulation.
- NRI candidates apply for the B.E and or B.tech course seat based on their performance in the JEE Main 2026 merit.
If there are any seats from the NRI pool that remain vacant post admissions they will be converted to MP Domicile seats and filled by regular centralized counselling.
6. Eligibility for All India Seats (5% of Intake)
Five percent of the total intake in all institutions is available as All India seats. These are open to eligible Indian candidates from any state. The academic eligibility conditions are the same as for MP domicile seats, but the domicile requirement does not apply. If All India seats remain vacant, they are also converted into MP domicile seats.
7. Eligibility for TFW (Tuition Fee Waiver) Seats
TFW seats (5% supernumerary per course) have the following eligibility conditions over and above the regular academic criteria:

| Entrance Exam | Valid JEE Main 2026 positive composite score |
Candidates admitted under TFW seats cannot change their branch or institution at any point during the course. Tuition fee alone is waived — all other charges must be paid.

EWS (Economically Weaker Section) reservation of 10% seats is available as per the Government of Madhya Pradesh order.
Conditions for EWS eligibility:
- Must be an MP domicile candidate (original resident of MP)

| Category | Certificate Required | Issued By |
|---|---|---|

Only one reserved category can be claimed. A candidate cannot simultaneously claim SC and OBC, or ST and OBC reservations.

Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates claiming horizontal reservation must:
- Have a disability of 40% or more (permanent in nature)
- Be MP domicile candidates
- Submit a Divyangjan certificate from the District Medical Board AND
- Submit a Course Eligibility Certificate from the Superintendent, National Career Service Centre for Differently Abled, Napier Town, Jabalpur — this certificate must specifically mention the course and branch for which eligibility is certified
Both certificates are mandatory. Missing either one results in ineligibility for the PwD horizontal reservation. If no PwD candidate is available for a PwD-reserved horizontal seat, that seat reverts to the Nil/X class of the same category.
