The Faculty of Law, University of Calcuttahas six affiliated Law Colleges providing dual degree integrated 5-Year B. A. LL. B. Course. The Department including two other affiliated Law Colleges (Jogesh Chandra Chaudhury Law College and South Calcutta Law College) also imparts B. A. LL. B (Honours) Program which is basically a slightly in-depth version of B. A. LL. B. Course. Besides, the Department also offers 2 Years LL. M. Course which is a postgraduate degree, as well as Ph. D. Programme which is a Doctoral research degree in Law. The Department can also provide Post-Doctoral research (LL.D.) facilities in appropriate cases.
The Department of Law was known as the University College of Law which was established in January 1909. It is recognised by the UGC (University Grants Commission) and affiliated to BCI (Bar Council of India).

- UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES:
Bachelor of Law – B.A.LL.B and B.A.LL.B (Honours)-
Duration = 5 years (Ten semesters)
Faculty of Law, University of Calcutta imparts a five-year integrated dual-degree (Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law) law program that amalgamates Law subjects with that of Arts. The successful completion of this course will earn the student a B.A., LL.B. /B.A., LL.B (Honours) degree.
The curriculum prepared by Faculty of Law, University of Calcutta covers various law related fields like Criminal Law, Corporate Law, Patent Law, Administrative Law, Tax Law, International Law and Labour Law along with the domains related to Arts field such as Economics, History, Sociology and Political Science etc. Although more focus is given to Law subjects as the department aims to generate Law scholars.

Master of Laws provided by Faculty of Law, University of Calcuttais a Post-graduation course awarding masters degree.The abbreviation LLM comes from a Latin term ‘Legum Magister’ which stands for the Master of Laws. The curriculum is designed and revamped to keep pace with the liberalisation and globalisation in education.The aspiring Law professionals generally pursue the LL.M. from Faculty of Law, University of Calcutta to gain expertise in a specialized field of law from the plethora of electives (for example in the area of corporate law or constitutional law, tax law or international law) to be qualified enough to work in a multinational legal environment as most of the law firms prefer students with an LL.M. degree.
