IPU B.Tech Counselling 2026 – Registration Process

IPU B.Tech Counselling 2026 registration is done entirely online at https://ipu.admissions.nic.in. There is no offline registration option. Here is the full process from start to finish:

Step 1: Online Registration and Application Form

Visit the GGSIPU admission portal and register yourself as a new user. The form will ask for personal details, date of birth, category, qualification details, JEE Main 2026 paper 1 details. Choose the Programme code 131 for B.Tech general engineering specializations and 128( Diploma holders) or 129 (B.Sc degree holders) for Lateral Entry program.

After completing the registration form recheck all the details once particularly your name, date of birth, JEE roll no, and category before submitting as correction can be made at the time of counseling with the help of university but is a time consuming process.

Step 2: Payment of Application/Registration Fee

Pay the application fee online after form submission. This payment is mandatory to complete your registration. Save the payment receipt.

Step 3: Choice Filling

After registration, fill your preferred institute-branch combinations in order of priority. GGSIPU’s counselling is choice-based, allotment happens based on your JEE rank against the choices you have submitted.

Fill the maximum possible number of choices. Candidates who fill only 3-4 choices significantly reduce their chances of getting a seat. Prefer your choices from most to least but keep them realistic, but add them in bulk.

Step 4: Payment of Part Academic Fee (Mandatory)

This is the very important step in the IPU counseling which a lot of candidates confuse. You need to pay the Part Academic fee once the allotment has been done so that your participation in allotment is confirmed.

If you do NOT pay the Part Academic Fee, GGSIPU treats this as non-acceptance of the allotted seat and you are excluded from the counselling process entirely. You can only re-enter as a fresh candidate in the Spot Round if it is conducted. Do not skip this payment under any circumstances.

Step 5: Online Document Verification

After making the Part Academic Fee payment, and received allotment, your documents will be verified on the web portal. At this stage you don’t need to visit the campus to submit the documents, upload them through the portal. The documents uploaded must be visible, readable and correspond to the information given in the application form.

Step 6: Print Your Allotment Letter

After successful document verification, download and print your Allotment Letter from the portal. This is your official seat confirmation document and is required at the time of institute reporting.

Step 7: Submit Willingness – Freeze or Float

After allotment & payment of fee you have two option:

  • Freeze: If you are willing to take the allotment you already get you and no longer want to participate in subsequent rounds of counselling your seat is confirmed and no going back will be done.
  • Float: If you are willing to take the allotment temporarily and hope for a better allotment in the next rounds of counselling you choose float. If as per your remaining choices a better allotment will be available then a higher allotment will be provided if not then your allotment will remain as it is.
  • Withdraw: If you do not want the allotted seat you want to quit counseling with a loss of 1000 (or as it apply) of your admission money and the rest of the fee will be refunded back to your account.

Step 8: Reporting to Allotted Institute

After freezing your seat, report to the allotted institute within the reporting window, carry all original documents, and pay the balance fee (if any) to complete your admission.

IPU B.Tech Counselling 2026 – Seat Allotment Process

In IPU B.Tech counseling the allotment is done purely based on merit as per your JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 rank. Given is the complete allotment process:

  • Inter-se Merit list: A separate B.Tech merit/rank list based on the JEE Main 2026 marks is prepared by GGSIPU. Only eligible students are ranked. A rank list is displayed on www.ipu.ac.in and no individual letter is sent to you for the same.
  • Choice based Allotment: Students will choose the choice of institutes-branches in their order of preference at the time of filling of choices. The allotment will be made based on the choice list submitted and eligible candidates in order of rank against vacant seats.
  • Sliding Round: Round 3 (Sliding Round) allows the candidates to add, delete or modify their earlier preferences. It is conducted so that candidates can make fresh sliding choice for better allotment according to the available vacancies from vacant seats after previous rounds. It gives you one more opportunity to get a better college by adding and changing your preferences before reporting.
  • Spot Round: If still there are vacancies remaining after the whole round allotment a Spot Round will be conducted and its schedule will be updated separately on university website. Those students who were excluded because they couldn’t pay their Part Academic Fee on earlier rounds can fill for this Round again by entering in as fresh candidate.
  • Final Confirmation: When you finalize your choice and reporting at the college with your documents along with full fees then your seat will be confirmed. Once you will do your confirmation for the allocated seat no cancellation will be allowed except for the refund rules applied for the fee.

IPU B.Tech Counselling 2026 Cut Off

IPU B.Tech Counselling 2026 Cut Off will be released round-wise after each seat allotment process on the official counselling portal. The cutoff represents the closing rank at which admission is granted in a particular institute, branch, category, and quota. Candidates should regularly check the latest cutoff PDF after every counselling round and also compare it with previous year cutoffs to understand admission trends and estimate their admission chances.
