JAC Chandigarh Counselling Process 2026 covers five distinct rounds, each with its own rules about who can participate, what they need to do, and what happens to their seat. Understanding the full process before you begin saves you from making avoidable mistakes that candidates repeatedly make every year.

This guide explains the entire JAC 2026 counselling process from registration to final physical reporting.

Five Rounds of JAC Chandigarh Counselling Overview

JAC Chandigarh runs counselling in this sequence:

  • Round 1 (First Regular Round)
  • Round 2 (Second Regular Round)
  • Round 3 (Third Regular Round)
  • Special Round (with fresh registrations allowed)
  • Spot Round (final round)

Step 1: Online Registration and Fee Payment

All candidates have the same starting point in the admission process. To register, go to https://jacchd.admissions.nic.in.

  • You must validate your identity using your JEE Main 2026 Application Number, name, mother’s name and date of birth
  • Create your own user account (login ID) with a password of your choice
  • Fill the registration form: category, sub-categories, qualifying exam marks, school location
  • Upload scanned self-attested documents for all claimed categories
  • Pay counselling fee online: Rs. 2,800 (General) or Rs. 1,400 (SC/ST/PwD)

Only registered, fee-paid candidates can proceed to choice filling. Without fee payment, you cannot fill choices.

Step 2: Mock Counselling

Before final choice locking, JAC provides a Mock Counselling feature. Based on all registered candidates’ choices at a given point in time, the system shows you an indicative seat that may be allotted to you.

This is not a guarantee, the actual allotment can differ. But it is useful for understanding your realistic position and adjusting your choice list accordingly. Mock Counselling is displayed once during the specified period. Watch the website closely for when it becomes available.

Step 3: Choice Filling and Locking

After registration:

  • Fill choices in order of preference, institute and branch combinations
  • Candidates eligible for both Engineering and Architecture must submit a single combined choice list
  • Candidates eligible only for B.Arch. (Architecture at CCA) need not fill choices separately, it is automatically considered
  • Choices can be changed, reordered, deleted, and new ones added any number of times before locking
  • Lock choices before the deadline. After locking, no changes are possible.
  • If you forget to lock, the last saved choices are auto-locked at the deadline
  • If nothing was saved, you are not considered for any round’s allotment

Step 4: Round 1 Allotment and What to Do After

After the choice locking deadline, the system processes all choices centrally and publishes the allotment result.

If you are allotted a seat:

  • Pay Rs. 40,000 seat acceptance fee online within the specified window
  • Submit willingness: Yes for Upgradation (you want a better seat in the next round) or Freeze for No Upgradation (you are satisfied with the current seat)
  • A Provisional Admission Letter is generated after both steps are completed

If you are not allotted a seat:

  • Wait for Round 2. Your choices from Round 1 are automatically considered in Round 2.

If you are allotted a seat but do not pay within the window:

  • Seat is automatically cancelled
  • You lose eligibility for Rounds 2 and 3 but can participate in the Special and Spot Rounds

Step 5: Round 2 Allotment

No fresh registrations in Round 2. Who can participates:

  • Candidates not allotted in Round 1
  • Candidates allotted in Round 1 who chose Yes for Upgradation (their earlier seat is retained while a better one is tried)
  • Candidates allotted in Round 1 who chose Freeze, they are not considered for new seats but their category may be upgraded automatically

Allotment result is published. First-time allottees in Round 2 must pay Rs. 40,000 and submit willingness. Previously allotted candidates who get a better seat see their earlier allotment automatically replaced.

Step 6: Round 3 Allotment

No fresh registrations in Round 3. Three types of candidates participate:

Type I: Unallotted candidates from Rounds 1 and 2 they can modify choices (optional) or the same choices carry forward.

Type III: Allotted in Round 2, chose Upgradation and may modify choices. Must include their previously allotted seat as one of the choices in Round 3. The system will not allow saving or locking choices without this.

After Round 3, all candidates who have paid Rs. 40,000 must physically report at the allotted institute as per the schedule on the website. Not reporting will automaticallu seat cancelled.

  • Documents are verified by the institute’s Document Verifying Officer
  • Admission is provisional subject to document verification
  • If documents are not in order, admission can be cancelled at any time even after joining

All participating institutes update physical reporting status on the portal. Vacant seats after physical reporting are published before the Special Round begins.
