JAC Chandigarh Counselling Process 2026: All Rounds Explained

JAC conducts five rounds in total. Here is how each one works:

Round 1 (First Regular Round)

  • All registered candidates who have filled and locked choices are considered
  • Seat allotment is published on the portal and communicated via SMS/Sandes
  • Allotted candidates must pay Rs. 40,000 seat acceptance fee online
  • Must submit willingness: Yes – Upgradation or Freeze – No Upgradation
  • No physical reporting required after Round 1, fee payment and willingness submission count as reporting
  • Candidates who do not pay after Round 1 allotment are eliminated from Rounds 2 and 3 but can participate in the Special and Spot Rounds

Round 2 (Second Regular Round)

  • No fresh registrations allowed
  • Candidates from Round 1 who opted for upgradation, and those not allotted in Round 1, participate
  • If allotted for the first time in Round 2, pay Rs. 40,000 and submit willingness
  • Candidates already allotted in Round 1 and who chose upgradation may get a better seat or retain the earlier one

Round 3 (Third Regular Round)

  • No fresh registrations allowed
  • All three types of candidates participate: unallotted, Freeze candidates (seat retained), and Upgradation candidates (may move to better seat)
  • Candidates who chose Freeze in earlier rounds must include their previously allotted seat as one of the choices when modifying choices in Round 3
  • After Round 3, physical reporting at the allotted institute is mandatory

Physical Reporting After Round 3

All candidates who paid the seat acceptance fee in Round 1, 2, or 3 must physically report at the allotted institute after Round 3 as per the schedule. Not reporting physically results in automatic cancellation of the allotted seat.

Special Round

  • Fresh registrations are allowed before the Special Round
  • Open to fresh candidates, previously unallotted candidates, those who physically reported after Round 3, those who withdrew earlier, and those whose seats were cancelled
  • All admissions in the Special Round are provisional subject to document verification at the time of physical reporting

Spot Round

  • Open to all registered candidates who paid the counselling fee, whether allotted or not, up to the Special Round
  • Candidates who have not yet paid Rs. 40,000 must pay it as advance fee before participating
  • If allotted a seat – fee is not refunded
  • If not allotted – fee is fully refunded
  • Fresh choice submission is mandatory for Spot Round; earlier choices are treated as null and void
  • Candidates already admitted must include their previously allotted seat among their choices

Choice Filling and Mock Counselling

After registration and fee payment, candidates proceed to choice filling.

  • Candidates can fill as many choices as they want in their preferred order
  • Choices can be changed, reordered, deleted, and new ones added any number of times before locking
  • Once locked, choices cannot be modified
  • If a candidate forgets to lock, the last saved choices are automatically locked after the deadline
  • Candidates who do not fill any choices in any round are not considered for allotment in that round, but can still participate in the Spot Round after paying Rs. 40,000

Mock Counselling is a feature that gives candidates a preview of the seat they might get based on their choices and the choices of others registered at that point. This is indicative only, the actual allotment may differ. It is displayed once during the schedule and helps candidates refine their final choice list.

Both Engineering and Architecture eligible candidates must submit a single combined set of choices. Engineering choices are processed using Engineering AIR, and Architecture choices using Architecture AIR. The best available option is allotted.
