VITEEE 2026 – Examination Scheme
Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) 2026 serves as the gateway for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes across the VIT group of institutions. The examination follows a well-defined pattern and structure to ensure transparency and fairness. Below is the complete overview of the VITEEE 2026 Scheme, including mode of examination, pattern, marking scheme, and mock test details.
a. Mode of Examination
VITEEE 2026 will be held in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode, at the designated test locations (test centers/venues) in India and other countries. The candidates will take the test on computers available at the test location. This mode of CBT provides better accuracy and faster evaluation and a smoother experience for everyone.
b. Exam pattern
There will be objective-type questions (MCQs) in the test paper in five sections as follows:
- Mathematics/Biology – 40 Questions
- Physics – 35 Questions
- Chemistry – 35 Questions
- English – 5 Questions
- Aptitude – 10 Questions
Each question will consist of four answer options and the candidates must choose one of the four options as the answer. The question paper will be in the English language only. The total duration of the exam would be 2 Hours and 30 minutes (150 minutes). The detailed syllabus of VITEEE 2026 is available at the official website: https://viteee.vit.ac.in/ and also mentioned in the Annexure of the official brochure. The structure of the above sections ensures that candidates are tested on essential knowledge in the core subjects along with language and logical reasoning skills.
c. Marking scheme
VITEEE 2026 use positive and negative marking so as to reward accuracy and discourage guessing. The marking pattern is as below:
- Correct Answer: +4 marks
- Incorrect Answer: -1 mark
- Unanswered / Marked For Review: 0 mark
Candidates are advised to attempt questions carefully since each incorrect answer will reduce the total score by one mark.
In the rare case where a question is found to be incorrect or dropped from the paper, full marks will be awarded to all candidates for that question, ensuring fairness.
Mock / Demo Test
In order to help candidates understand the examination interface, navigation and question format, a Mock Test (Demo Test) will be hosted on the official website (www.vit.ac.in) tentatively in March 2026.
The mock test is designed to provide candidates with:
- A clear understanding of the CBT interface.
- Experience of time management during the exam.
- Confidence and familiarity with the VITEEE online test environment.
Candidates are strongly encouraged to take the mock test to ensure a smooth experience on the actual exam day.
