Tamil Nadu NEET PG Counselling 2026 is the state-level counselling for MD, MS and PG Diploma admissions. It is open to candidates who have qualified in NEET PG 2026. Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DME&R), Chennai, conducts it online. It covers Government medical colleges, Government seats in self-financing medical colleges, and Management Quota seats (including NRI) in self-financing medical colleges. All of these are affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.
Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts counselling for 50% of the seats in Government medical colleges under the All India Quota (AIQ). The remaining 50% of Government college seats form the State Quota, which the Tamil Nadu Selection Committee fills. Half of the State Quota is kept for in-service candidates, and the other half is open to both service and non-service candidates.

Tamil Nadu NEET PG Counselling 2026 Quotas
All India Quota (AIQ)
50% of the total recognised or permitted PG seats in Government medical colleges are offered to the All India Quota. These seats are allotted by MCC under the Director General of Health Services (DGHS), New Delhi.
State Quota (Government medical colleges)
The remaining 50% of seats in Government colleges form the State Quota. It is divided as follows:

If no eligible service candidates opt for PG Degree or Diploma courses, those seats go to eligible General category candidates.
PG Diploma seats for medical officers
50% of PG Diploma seats are reserved for Government medical officers who have served at least three years in hilly, remote, difficult or rural areas of Tamil Nadu. After the Diploma, these officers must serve two more years in such areas.
Government seats in self-financing colleges
Government seats in self-financing medical colleges are filled through the same counselling. Seat sharing with minority and non-minority self-financing colleges follows state policy, NMC PG regulations and court orders. The percentage of Government seats in each college has not been released yet.
Management Quota and NRI Quota
Management Quota seats in self-financing medical colleges, including NRI seats, are counselled separately by the Selection Committee. Up to 15% of the total sanctioned seats can be given to the NRI quota. Unfilled NRI seats revert to Management Quota. Candidates claiming minority status need to submit a minority certificate.

The 40th percentile applies to Tamil Nadu natives belonging to SC, SC (Arunthathiyar), ST, Backward Classes, Backward Classes (Muslim), Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities.
Nativity and MBBS location
- Tamil Nadu natives: They can apply under their community for Government seats and Government quota seats in self-financing colleges. This applies whether they studied MBBS, including internship, inside or outside Tamil Nadu.
- Natives of other states: They are eligible only under the Open category if they did their MBBS, including internship, in Tamil Nadu.
- Dual nativity: Action is taken against candidates claiming nativity in two states.
Service candidates
Medical officers selected by TNPSC or the Medical Services Recruitment Board and appointed in Tamil Nadu Medical Services must have completed two years of continuous service as on 31 March 2026. Medical officers in local bodies in Tamil Nadu must meet the same condition. They must also have at least five years of service left after the PG course. Temporary appointees, and staff of registered societies or self-financing institutions, are treated as non-service candidates.
Management Quota and NRI quota
NRI quota is for candidates of Indian origin settled abroad, children of Indian citizens working abroad, and similar categories. The NRI financial supporter must be a parent, spouse, blood relative or a court-appointed guardian. The candidate must hold a valid Indian passport or OCI card.

Reservation rules apply to Government seats. The reservation percentages for Management Quota seats have not been released yet.

Small number of seats
- 1 seat in a speciality: It is allotted on rank only.
- More than 1 and fewer than 8 seats: The 200-point roster method applies.
Conversion of unfilled seats
- Unfilled SC (Arunthathiyar) seats go to SC candidates on merit, and vice versa.
- Unfilled ST seats go to SC candidates on merit.
- Unfilled Backward Class Muslim seats go to BC candidates on merit, without exceeding the total BC quota.
- If more qualified Arunthathiyar candidates are available than seats earmarked for them, the extra candidates can compete with other SC candidates on merit.
Persons with Disabilities (PwD)
- Candidates with 40% to 80% disability may be considered eligible for the PwD quota.
- Candidates with more than 80% disability are not eligible for admission.
- Candidates with less than 40% disability are not eligible for reservation, but can apply under the General category.
- PwD allotment is done ahead of the General category. There is no reallotment or change of college for the Special category.
- Unfilled PwD seats revert to General category.
- Both hands intact, with intact sensation, sufficient strength and range of motion are essential.
- The certificate must be issued by a Primary Medical Assessment Board in Chennai (Stanley), Madurai, Coimbatore or Thanjavur, or by the Appellate Disability Assessment Board at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai. It must be obtained within three months before applying.
- If the PwD certificate is not uploaded, the application is considered under the General category only.
- Eligible differently abled candidates are exempt from tuition and special fees in Government medical institutions.
Community certificates
Tamil Nadu natives who claim community reservation must upload both their own community certificate and the community certificate of either parent, issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department with official seal. ST candidates need a certificate from the Revenue Divisional Officer.
Tamil Nadu NEET PG Counselling 2026 Counselling Process
- Qualify NEET PG 2026.
- Apply online at www.tnmedicalselection.net and pay the application fee.
- Upload all documents with the application. This is mandatory.
- Selection Committee publishes provisional rank lists after scrutiny of all applications.
- Pay the ₹1,000 registration fee and lock your choices.
- Download your provisional allotment order and join the college within the stipulated time.
- Round 2 covers seats left vacant after Round 1 and any newly sanctioned seats. Re-allotment (upgrade) is permitted only in this round.
- Round 3 covers Remaining vacancies are filled from the rank list.
- Further rounds can be held if DGHS directs.
All admissions and resignations are online only. Colleges that take offline admission or resignation face legal consequences. Mutual transfer or individual transfer between colleges is not permitted. The counselling scheme follows DGHS and MCC guidelines and court orders, so any change they make applies to Tamil Nadu counselling too.
Tamil Nadu NEET PG Counselling 2026 Registration Process
- Visit www.tnmedicalselection.net and open the PG Degree/Diploma application for your quota (Government Quota or Management Quota).
- Fill in your NEET PG 2026 details and personal information. Do not leave any mandatory column blank.
- Enter your academic and medical registration details.
- Enter your community and nativity details, if applicable.
- Upload clear, self-attested copies of all documents. Upload the same photograph you used for NEET PG 2026.
- Pay the application fee online by debit card, credit card, net banking, RTGS or UPI. Deduction from your bank account alone is not proof of payment.
- Review the form carefully, because details cannot be changed after submission.
- Submit the form before deadline and save a copy.
Important Points to remember
- Submit only one online application.
- Incomplete applications and applications with unclear documents are rejected without reconsideration.
- Fill the form yourself. Do not use an agent, third party or consultancy.
- Service candidates must upload their service particulars before the last date. The details must be certified by the forwarding authority with date and seal. Government medical officers need a service proforma certified by the designated authority. Otherwise the application is rejected.
- Management Quota candidates must upload a 4″×6″ colour photograph (50 KB to 300 KB).
- Registration for counselling is separate from the application. You pay the registration fee when you register for each counselling round.

Tuition fee paid to download the allotment order in self-financing colleges is non-refundable. Fee complaints about self-financing colleges go to the Committee on Fixation of Fees for Self-Financing Professional Colleges.

The security deposit is separate from the registration fee.

- Refund: Candidates who did not get a seat in any round get the deposit back within three months after the entire counselling ends. No interest is paid.
- Forfeiture: The deposit is forfeited in the cases listed in the forfeiture section. This includes not joining a Round 3 or Stray Round seat, and discontinuing a seat after the stipulated date.
- Payment timing: The point at which the deposit must be paid has not been released yet.

All of the following documents must be uploaded along with the online application.
- NEET PG 2026 scorecard
- NEET PG 2026 admit card
- MBBS degree certificate, or provisional pass certificate (and Diploma certificate, if applicable)
- CRMI/CRRI completion certificate
- Permanent or provisional medical registration certificate (NMC or State Medical Council)

- Nativity certificate and community certificate issued by the competent authority

- NRI documents: financial supporter’s NRI status, certificate of relationship, valid passport/OCI card, NRE bank passbook, declaration, court guardianship order
Candidates must carry the originals to the Head of the institution at admission. Admitted candidates also give a self-declaration that the seat can be cancelled if facts were suppressed.
If NRI documents are found false, the candidate is not allotted a seat under any category, and criminal action follows. Such candidates are debarred for three years and no fees are refunded.
Tamil Nadu NEET PG Counselling 2026 Choice Filling
Below are the choice filling confirmed rules:
- Candidates register and lock choices in each round. Candidates who did not register or lock choices in Round 1 can still take part in later rounds.
- A candidate allotted a seat in State Round 3 cannot take part in any further round. Do not fill options for seats you do not want.
- If you get a seat in Government colleges or in Government Quota seats of self-financing colleges in Round 3, you cannot claim a seat in the Management Round 3.
- In Stray Round, if a seat is allotted according to your choices, you must join without fail.
- If a Round 1 allottee opts for re-allotment, that seat shows as a virtual vacancy. You can lock it as a choice. It is allotted to you only if the Round 1 allottee vacates it.
- Selection Committee is not responsible for NMC approvals, infrastructure or rules of a college. Some seats have only a letter of permission from NMC and are not yet recognised. Check the NMC website before choosing a seat.
Tamil Nadu NEET PG Counselling 2026 Admission Process
- Download the provisional allotment order online after the result. In self-financing colleges, you pay the entire tuition fee and special fees online at this stage.
- Report to the college on or before the date and time in the allotment order, with relevant documents.
- Show your original certificates and scanned copies. Required originals are the NEET PG admit card and scorecard, Aadhaar and ID proof, MBBS degree or provisional certificate, CRMI/CRRI certificate, medical registration, eligibility certificate (if applicable), community/nativity/service/PwD certificates (if applicable) and the same photo used in NEET PG 2026.
- Give a self-declaration that the seat can be cancelled for suppression of facts.
- Pay the balance fees. In Government colleges, the balance tuition and special fees are paid at the time of admission.
- Complete the bond formalities where applicable.
- Join the course, unauthorised absence of 15 days or more is treated as discontinuation.
Original certificates are retained by the college and are released only when you complete the course, resign or pay the discontinuation fee. Admission and resignation are done online only.

- Accept and join: Download the allotment order and join on time. After Round 2, a seat you hold in Round 3 or Stray Round cannot be vacated.
- Upgrade: Re-allotment is permitted in Round 2, based on rank and reservation. Candidates who joined in Round 2 can take part in Round 3. If you join a Round 3 seat, you cannot upgrade, vacate or take part in the Stray Round.
- Resign: Resignation applies to Round 1 and Round 2 allottees, within the stipulated time. Service candidates should be careful about resigning in Round 1 or 2, because they may not get the same post or station again. Candidates who resign after the Round 2 deadline are not eligible for Round 3 and later rounds.
- Interaction with MCC: If MCC shares its joined list for AIQ Round 3, candidates who have joined are blocked before State Round 3 results are shown. Candidates who hold seats from AIQ, Deemed University or DNB (conducted by NBE) in earlier rounds cannot take part in the State Stray Round. Candidates allotted in the AIQ/Deemed/DNB Stray Round are also not eligible for the State Stray Round.

Tamil Nadu NEET PG Counselling 2026 Bond Policy
Non-service candidates in Government colleges (including AIQ candidates)
- Stipend is paid during the course, until the age of 60 only.
- You must serve the Tamil Nadu Government for 2 years within 3 years of completing the course, if the Government requires your services. You are paid on par with new recruits in Tamil Nadu Medical Service.
- You sign a bond with three sureties for ₹20 lakh (PG Diploma) or ₹40 lakh (PG Degree). Two sureties must be permanent Government employees of the same or higher rank, and one must be a spouse or parent. PAN numbers of sureties are required.
- Failure to serve as directed attracts compensation of ₹40 lakh, or an amount proportionate to the unserved period, with interest at the Tamil Nadu Government housing loan rate.
- The Government retains your original certificates during the bond period. Candidates who discontinue the course pay the discontinuation fee and the stipend received.
Service candidates
- Salary (pay + DA) is paid during the study period.
- Candidates with more than five years of service left sign a bond of Rs.20 lakh (Diploma) or Rs.40 lakh (Degree) to serve until superannuation.
- Candidates with less than five years of service left must serve five years from the date of clearing the exam, if the Government requires.
- If a candidate resigns or takes voluntary retirement after the PG course, compensation of Rs.40 lakh is payable, or an amount proportionate to the unserved period, with interest.
- Service candidates joining Government seats in self-financing colleges should read the relevant government order before choosing.

The merit list decides your turn in allotment. In Tamil Nadu, the state rank list is drawn from the marks obtained in NEET PG 2026. For Government Quota, eligible in-service candidates also get weightage marks. These are up to 10% of the eligible NEET PG marks for each year of service in hilly, remote, difficult or rural areas, subject to a maximum of 30% of the marks secured in NEET PG 2026. Because of this and the state eligibility conditions, your state rank can differ from your All India Rank. Selection Committee will publish provisional rank lists on www.tnmedicalselection.net after it scrutinises all applications.
