Karnataka NEET PG Counselling 2026 is the state-level admission process for MD, MS and Diploma courses in medical colleges across Karnataka. The counselling is conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), Bengaluru, for Government medical colleges, Government quota seats in private and minority colleges, and eligible private seats in private medical colleges and universities. Candidates who have qualified in NEET PG 2026 and meet the required eligibility conditions can participate in the counselling process.
Karnataka has a separate counselling system for its state seats and the All India Quota. Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts counselling for 50% of the seats in Karnataka Government medical colleges under the All India Quota, while KEA conducts counselling for the remaining Government seats and other seats covered under the state counselling process.
Karnataka counselling registration started on 5 October 2026 at 11:00 AM, while slot booking for document verification began on 7 October 2026. Candidates can register without late fee until 15 October 2026 at 11:00 AM. The remaining counselling dates, including the merit list, seat matrix, option entry and seat allotment schedule, will be updated as KEA announces them.
Candidates should carefully check their eligibility, registration details, documents, category and seat preferences before participating in Karnataka NEET PG Counselling 2026. The counselling process also includes specific rules for reservation, choice filling, seat surrender, penalties and service bonds, so understanding these conditions is important before selecting a seat.

Karnataka NEET PG Counselling 2026 Quotas
Karnataka does not follow a single common quota pattern. KEA classifies PG seats into four types: Government (G), Private (P), NRI (N) and Others (Q). Here is how each works.
All India Quota (AIQ)
In Government colleges, 50% of the seats go through the All India Quota. MCC conducts this counselling. The other 50% of Government college seats come to KEA as Government seats. KEA’s own rounds also depend on MCC’s schedule and conditions at certain points.
Government Seats (G)
These are seats in Government colleges, plus the Government share of seats in private colleges.
| College Type | Seats Available to KEA as Government Seats |
| Government colleges | 50% (the other 50% goes to AIQ) |
| Private non-minority colleges | 33% |
| Private minority (religious and linguistic) colleges | 20% |
| Private university colleges | 40% |
Private Seats (P)
These are private quota seats in KPCF, KRLMPCA and AMPCK colleges, and in private universities.
- KPCF colleges: 42% of seats are private quota seats. Half of these are GMP seats. The other half are OPN (open) seats, filled on NEET PG All India merit and open to Indian citizens only.
- KRLMPCA and AMPCK colleges: 55% of seats are private quota seats. Of these, 66% are for religious or linguistic minority candidates (MK, MA, ME, MU, MC and MM seats). The remaining 34% is split equally between GMP and OPN seats.
- Private universities: 40% of seats are private quota seats.
NRI Seats (N)
15% of the total seats in KPCF, KRLMPCA and AMPCK colleges and private universities are reserved for the NRI quota.
Other Seats (Q)
10% of total seats in KPCF, KRLMPCA and AMPCK colleges are Other seats. In private universities, the share is 5%.
In-Service Candidates
KEA also invites applications from eligible Karnataka in-service candidates for DNB and Diploma courses. Detailed in-service eligibility conditions and procedures have not been released yet. They will be announced after KEA receives government directions.
Karnataka NEET PG Counselling 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Only candidates who have qualified in NEET PG 2026 can register. Candidates must also meet the eligibility conditions, submit the required documents and complete document verification at KEA.
| Eligibility Requirement | Details |
| NEET PG Qualification | Must have scored at or above the prescribed minimum in NEET PG 2026 |
| Educational Qualification | MBBS from a recognised medical college |
| Internship | Must be completed within the cutoff date set by NBEMS/NMC |
| Registration | Permanent or provisional State/Central Medical Council registration (see notes below) |
| Domicile Requirement | Depends on the seat type and clause claimed |
| State Eligibility | Non-Karnataka candidates can apply for open and other eligible seats |
| Age Requirement | Not Available |
| Other Requirements | Must not already hold a PG degree in any clinical specialty |
Key eligibility points
- Non-Karnataka candidates are not eligible for reservation. They can register only if they have scored the minimum 50th percentile fixed for the General (UR) category.
- SC/ST/OBC eligibility criteria apply to Karnataka SC/ST/OBC candidates only.
- Candidates who already hold a PG degree in any clinical specialty cannot take admission to any PG degree or Diploma course.
- Foreign medical graduates must have qualified in the FMGE Screening Test and be registered with the medical council. They must have completed, or be likely to complete, their internship by the prescribed date.
- Foreign nationals need their qualification recognised by the relevant authority in their own country. They also need a temporary registration certificate for the PG course duration.
Eligibility clauses
Candidates select one of these clauses while applying. The clause decides which seats they can claim and which documents they must produce.
| Clause | Who It Is For |
| a | Indian citizen who passed MBBS from a recognised institution in Karnataka |
| b | Studied ten academic years (1st to 12th) in Karnataka and passed MBBS from Karnataka |
| c | Studied ten academic years (1st to 12th) in Karnataka and passed MBBS from outside Karnataka |
| d | Child of an All India Service officer of Karnataka cadre who served outside the state during the candidate’s study |
| e | Child of a Union Government, or Union or Karnataka State Government undertaking employee who declared a Karnataka hometown and is liable to be transferred anywhere in India |
| f | Child of a Member of Parliament elected from Karnataka, for the period of study in New Delhi |
| g | Child of serving defence personnel or ex-servicemen who declared a Karnataka hometown at joining |
| y | Indian citizen who passed MBBS from a recognised institution outside Karnataka |
| z | OCI, PIO, NRI or foreign national with a recognised MBBS |
For clauses b and c, the ten years of study must be completed in Government or Government-recognised institutions in Karnataka as on 31 March 2026. If a candidate took more than one year to pass a class, that class counts as one year only.
Karnataka NEET PG Counselling 2026 Reservation Policy
Karnataka applies reservation through a roster system fixed by the government. Reservation is available only to Karnataka candidates. Non-Karnataka candidates compete in the General (UR) category.
- Categories used in Karnataka: SC, ST, Category-1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B.
- Hyderabad-Karnataka region: Candidates with an Article 371(j) certificate can claim this reservation. Seats are marked with the suffix H (for example GMH, 1H, 2AH).
- SC internal reservation: Karnataka SC candidates must obtain a caste certificate that shows the internal category (SCA, SCB or SCC) and the RD number. Without it, they cannot select seats reserved for the SC category.
- How seats are searched: For any candidate, the system first looks for a seat in the General Merit (GM) category. If none is available, it checks the Hyderabad-Karnataka GM quota and then moves on to the candidate’s own reserved category. This is how reserved category candidates can also get seats in the open category on merit.
- PwD reservation: Applicable only to Karnataka candidates. Eligibility for benchmark disabilities follows the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. PwD candidates must appear for a medical examination at KEA on the notified dates. A candidate found ineligible can be disqualified at any stage.
- Religious and linguistic minority seats: These are available only in minority colleges and follow the eligibility conditions listed in the quota section.
- Certificates: Caste and caste-income certificates must be issued by the concerned Tahsildar. For SC/ST the format is Form-D, for Category-1 it is Form-E, and for 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B it is Form-F. For married women, the certificate must show the husband’s name and income.
Fee exemption for SC/ST (Karnataka candidates)
| Annual Family Income | Government Seats | Private Seats |
| Below Rs.2.50 lakh | Exempted from paying fees | Pay full fees |
| Rs.2.50 lakh to below Rs.10 lakh | Pay 50% of the tuition fee | Pay full fees |

Karnataka NEET PG Counselling 2026 Choice Filling
Choice filling, also called option entry, decides which seats you can get. Karnataka follows some rules that differ from other states.
- Options are entered once. The priority list you enter before Round 1 applies to all online rounds. You cannot add fresh options for Round 2. You can only delete or reorder them. In Round 3 you enter options afresh.
- Enter more options than you think you need. Seats can open up after AIQ surrenders, new courses or additional intake approvals and consequential vacancies. Seats may be allotted even if they are not shown in the seat matrix when you enter your choices.
- Check fees first. Look at the fee for each college, course and seat type before adding it. Discuss your options with your parents.
- Only add courses you are willing to join. Allotment is done on merit and your options, and you cannot reject an allotted seat.
Mock allotment
After option entry, a mock allotment is run. It is only indicative. You do not report to any college. Use it to see the college-wise, course-wise and category-wise cutoff ranks and to revise your options. Your real result can differ, because other candidates may also change their choices. Edits are possible until the last date and time fixed for option entry.
Karnataka NEET PG Counselling 2026 Seat Allotment
Seats are allotted on the basis of merit, the priority of your options and the government roster. The system starts with Rank 1 and checks that candidate’s first option. If a seat is available in their category, it is allotted. If not, it moves down their list. This continues rank by rank until seats or candidates are exhausted.

Stray Vacancy Round

Karnataka NEET PG Counselling 2026 Admission Process
- Download the admission order from the KEA portal after paying the prescribed fee.
- Report to the allotted college on or before the last date given in the admission order. No extension is given.
- Submit your documents. Original documents and the bonds (rural service bond and three-year undertaking) are submitted at the time of admission. RGUHS eligibility and migration certificates are submitted at the college where required.
- Pay the fees. SC/ST candidates follow the fee exemption rules above. NRI and Other seat candidates furnish a bank guarantee.
- Update your joining details on the KEA portal using your login ID. If you do not, your seat is cancelled even if you have physically joined.

Not reporting to the college does not count as surrendering the seat. It is treated as seat blocking and can attract penalties and legal action. If you want to give up a seat, surrender it formally. Candidates who plan to join elsewhere should surrender the seat to KEA before the last date for option entry in the next round.
Original documents are returned to candidates who were not allotted a seat on their request. The candidate must come in person with the original verification slip and ID card.
