Role of JEE main score in admissions in government engineering colleges

During my admissions into engineering (2005), AIEEE used to be a separate exam. That time, the government aided colleges in Maharashtra did not have AIEEE quota whereas private colleges did have 15% seats reserved for candidates applying through this exam (reasons best known to them!) Now, it has so happened that majority of these government aided institutes have claimed academic autonomy status have their own independent procedures. ICT (UDCT), Mumbai used to have AIEEE quota even then, which it has continued till now for JEE.

Government engineering colleges have always been the first choice of aspiring Indian students who want to pursue an engineering career and there are many reasons to back this notion, some of them are

1 Low tuition and exam fees

2 Well setup labs

3High recognition

4 Historical legacies
